Terms from Statistics for HCI: Making Sense of Quantitative Data

An initial set of contacts is used as the first set of subjects, and they are then asked to suggest any of their own contacts who might take part in the survey. A danger of this approach is that there may be internal non-independence if the contacts of each individual are likely to share the feature or ability being investigated – for example contacts may well share political views, or educational background.
